-> Introduction: On Thursday, November 14, 2013, Donald J. Sachtleben, a 55-year-old former FBI bomb technician and government contractor from Carmel, Indiana, was sentenced to 140 months (11 years and 8 months) in federal prison. He was convicted for possessing and distributing child pornography and for unlawfully disclosing national defense information about a disrupted terrorist plot.Sachtleben worked for the FBI from 1983 to 2008 as a Special Agent Bomb Technician, where he held a top-secret security clearance and was involved in several major terrorism investigations. After retiring, he continued working as a contractor and still had access to classified national defense information. In September 2013, Sachtleben pleaded guilty to charges related to leaking classified information and to child pornography offenses. He admitted that in May 2012, he shared classified details about a disrupted al-Qaeda plot in Yemen with a reporter, knowing that the information could potentially harm the United States.Later that same month, law enforcement searched his home and found his laptop containing numerous images and videos of child pornography. The charges from both cases were combined, leading to his final sentence. Sachtleben’s case is often cited as an example of how someone in a trusted position of national security can fall from grace through criminal misconduct. https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdin/pr/former-federal-contractor-sentenced-disclosing-national-defense-information-and ^----------------------------^ ~ Personal Information ~ - Full Name: Donald J.
