Cho0b thought he was safe. He had Cloudflare. He had DNSSEC. He had NSEC3. He had everything a script kiddie needs to feel secure. He was wrong. We started with a simple query. ================================================================================================================================================ $ host wtfux.org wtfux.org has address 38.173.89.230 Nothing special. Just another domain with a pulse. But we knew better. We always know better. 0x01 - THE RECONNAISSANCE ================================================================================================================================================ The first rule of DNS hijacking is you don't talk about DNS hijacking. The second rule is you always check for NSEC3 records. We ran the magic command. ================================================================================================================================================ $ dig +trace +nocomments wtfux.org What we found was beautiful. ================================================================================================================================================ wtfux.org. 3600 IN NS veda.ns.cloudflare.com. wtfux.org. 3600 IN NS ganz.ns.cloudflare.com. gdtpongmpok61u9lvnipqor8lra9l4t0.org. 3600 IN NSEC3 1 1 0 332539EE7F95C32A GDTREA8KMJ2RNEQEN4M2OGJ26KFSUKJ7 NS SOA RRSIG DNSKEY NSEC3PARAM bgap08dijpqojbp0ioifdg2ck66lv165.org. 3600 IN NSEC3 1 1 0 332539EE7F95C32A BGAV5JVF58P6432A8LRN1E55R5EIDD30 NS DS RRSIG Cho0b had implemented NSEC3. How cute. For those who don't know, NSEC3 is supposed to hide your subdomains. It's like hiding your keys under the doormat. Sure, they're hidden. But everyone knows where to look. The salt was 332539EE7F95C32A. We decoded it. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x33 = '3' 0x25 = '%' 0x39 = '9' 0xEE = (non-printable) 0x7F = (non-printable) 0x95 = (non-printable) 0xC3 = (non-printable) 0x2A = '*' So cho0b's salt is "3%9...*". This is the equivalent of using "password" as your password. We laughed. We laughed a lot. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x02 - THE CRACKING We wrote a Python script. ================================================================================================================================================ import hashlib import base64 salt = bytes.fromhex("332539EE7F95C32A") def nsec3_hash(domain) data = domain.encode() + b'\x00' + salt hash_val = hashlib.sha1(data).digest() return base64.b32encode(hash_val).decode().rstrip('=') ================================================================================================================================================ We tested all the common subdomains. Nothing matched. Cho0b had hidden his subdomains well. But not well enough. We expanded our search. We tried every combination of letters and numbers up to 5 characters. 60 million possibilities. With a modern CPU, we could check 100,000 hashes per second. That's 10 minutes of work. Nothing matched. And then we realized the truth. The NSEC3 records themselves were the subdomains. gdtpongmpok61u9lvnipqor8lra9l4t0 and bgap08dijpqojbp0ioifdg2ck66lv165 weren't random strings. They were the hides subdomains. Cho0b had hidden them in plain sight. But we didn't need to find his subdomains. We had something better. The salt. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x03 - THE EXPLOIT The salt 332539EE7F95C32A was the key to everything. With it, we could generate our own NSEC3 records. We could poison the DNS cache at the .org TLD level. We could make wtfux.org point to our server. We used the most reliable method known to hackers everywhere. ================================================================================================================================================ $ echo "51.222.143.230 wtfux.org" >> /etc/hosts $ echo "51.222.143.230 www.wtfux.org" >> /etc/hosts But that was too easy. We wanted to do it properly. We wanted cho0b to know that his precious DNS was gone. We set up dnsmasq. ================================================================================================================================================ $ apt-get install dnsmasq -y $ cat > /etc/dnsmasq.conf << EOF interface=lo bind-interfaces address=/wtfux.org/51.222.143.230 EOF $ systemctl restart dnsmasq $ echo "nameserver 127.0.0.1" > /etc/resolv.conf And then we tested. ================================================================================================================================================ $ dig wtfux.org +short 51.222.143.230 Boom. Cho0b's DNS was ours. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x04 - THE REDIRECT But we weren't done. We wanted to make it hurt. We wanted cho0b to know that his visitors were now our visitors. We set up nginx. ================================================================================================================================================ $ cat > /etc/nginx/sites-available/wtfux.org << EOF server { listen 80; server_name wtfux.org www.wtfux.org; return 301 https//projectpm.net$request_uri; } EOF $ ln -sf /etc/nginx/sites-available/wtfux.org /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/ $ nginx -t && systemctl reload nginx ================================================================================================================================================ We tested. $ curl -I http//wtfux.org HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently Location https//projectpm.net/ Perfect. Every visitor to wtfux.org was now going to projectpm.net. Cho0b's traffic was our traffic. Cho0b's customers were our customers. Cho0b's DNS was our DNS. We added a HINFO record just to rub it in. ================================================================================================================================================ $ dig wtfux.org HINFO wtfux.org. 3600 IN HINFO "RFC8482" "" RFC8482. The RFC that says "don't use ANY queries." Cho0b had implemented it wrong. We laughed. We laughed hard. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x05 - THE AFTERMATH Cho0b woke up the next morning. He had his coffee. He checked his domain. ================================================================================================================================================ $ host wtfux.org wtfux.org has address 51.222.143.230 He blinked. He checked again. $ host wtfux.org wtfux.org has address 51.222.143.230 He screamed. He checked his Cloudflare configuration. Perfect. He checked his DNSSEC. Perfect. He checked his NSEC3. Perfect. He checked the DNS. It was ours. He called Cloudflare. They said "NSEC3? We don't use that. You must have misconfigured something." He cried. We laughed. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x06 - THE TECHNICAL DETAILS For those who care about the details. - NSEC3 algorithm 1 (SHA1) - NSEC3 flags 1 (Opt-out) - NSEC3 iterations 0 - NSEC3 salt 332539EE7F95C32A - Key tag 13950 - Signer org The RRSIG signatures were. ryNzGKiCJkSb1BEdDrnT64dXXpU/rNvjF2JTf9PkSOnxTE4BPWnqk3RgRyrpb1oxJXIu8fhlxBEaJeKBSy+kP2SDR3959I8oofOExaFtlZ14agmUjN3DFDmb+OFC7k+BqeLoiKlEpz6RUGhiTM574TWBN/Fz8UNdlbhVK7VC2/0= Q/zd1GqZYkYF5gqIqZH/2qJkToHCaPTPJlHHoMnjQUql559Sv4LvQ+5pqA9kydqbrt4aQX5P6IVf5t9Q2RWv2g38x7peG9yzEYXk4HqxEFpSzuhr6YTpHf+qJn9Swo2by1QKD6dAvS1z7eHuMhBP7G0JjcBwGzvtIW8TOZyYBtE= We decoded them. And we collected them all. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x08 - LESSONS LEARNED 1. NSEC3 is not security. It's theater. If you're going to use it, use a strong salt. And by strong, we mean not 332539EE7F95C32A. 2. Cloudflare is great. But Cloudflare can't fix stupid. If you don't know how to use DNSSEC, don't implement it. You'll only embarrass yourself. 3. DNS hijacking is easy. If you think your DNS is secure, you're wrong. It's not a matter of IF you'll get hijacked. It's a matter of WHEN. 4. Cho0b, if you're reading this, we're not sorry. We're laughing. We're laughing and pointing at you and laughing. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x09 - ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We'd like to thank cho0b for making this possible by being incompetent. Cloudflare for providing excellent infrastructure that cho0b couldn't use. The .org TLD servers for being so trusting. BIND for being the buggiest DNS server ever created. dnsmasq for being the best DNS hijacking tool since sliced bread. The NSA for watching us watch cho0b. And ProjectPM for giving us a target. ================================================================================================================================================ 0x0A - FINAL WORDS DNS hijacking is fun. It's easy. It's profitable. If you're reading this and you own a domain, we're probably watching. And if we're watching, we're probably laughing. Cho0b, we took your domain. We took your traffic. We took your pride. And we did it all using your own salt. Don't worry. We'll take good care of your domain. We'll give it the love and attention that you never did. We'll redirect it to projectpm.net, where it belongs. So long, and thanks for all the NSEC3. ================================================================================================================================================ "DNS hijacking is not a crime if you're doing it for education. The @ED_UPDATES Twitter handle directly links the subject to Encyclopedia Dramatica operations. The @Fuxnet handle is consistent with the subject’s primary online brand. β€” - ### VIII. The IP 209.141.38.220 geolocates to San Jose, California, which is consistent with FranTech’s U.S. infrastructure. **FranTech Solutions** FranTech Solutions (also known as BuyVM) is a hosting provider that has historically been associated with privacy-focused and grey-market services. The company operates data centers in Las Vegas, Nevada; Luxembourg; and additional locations. The San Jose IP indicates the wtfux.org server operates from FranTech’s California infrastructure. β€” - ### XII. The encyclopediadramatica.es domain represents a Spanish-language mirror or instance of Encyclopedia Dramatica, a wiki-based website that documents internet subcultures, memes, and individuals. The .es top-level domain (Spain) provides jurisdictional separation from the primary .com and .se domains historically used by Encyclopedia Dramatica. The wtfux.org IRC network name is derived from β€œWTF” (What The Fuck) combined with β€œUX” (User Experience), a naming convention consistent with early-2000s internet subculture aesthetics. β€” - ### XIII. Encyclopedia Dramatica and LulzNet Association The subject’s association with Encyclopedia Dramatica is established through multiple independent data points 1. **Twitter account** @ED_UPDATES on Twitter/X is a dedicated account for Encyclopedia Dramatica updates, directly linking the subject to ED operations. 2. **Domain operation** encyclopediadramatica.es is associated with the subject’s infrastructure, indicating operational involvement with an Encyclopedia Dramatica instance. 3. **IRC presence** Documentation of the subject on irc.wtfux.org, a network with documented associations to Encyclopedia Dramatica and related communities. 4. **LulzNet connection** The email address attorney@lulz.net places the subject within the LulzNet domain infrastructure. LulzNet was a loosely organized network associated with Anonymous, LulzSec, and the broader hacktivist ecosystem of the late 2000s and early 2010s. **Historical Context** Encyclopedia Dramatica was founded in 2004 as a satirical wiki documenting internet culture, memes, and drama. It gained notoriety for its aggressive documentation of individuals involved in online controversies, its association with the /b/ board of 4chan, and its connections to early Anonymous operations. The site has been de-platformed multiple times and has operated under various domain registrations and hosting arrangements. LulzSec (Lulz Security) was a hacking collective that emerged from the Anonymous ecosystem in 2011, responsible for high-profile attacks against Sony Pictures, the CIA, the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency, and numerous other targets. Several LulzSec members were arrested and prosecuted following an FBI investigation that involved the infiltration of the group by the FBI informant Hector Xavier Monsegur (aka β€œSabu”). The subject’s documented presence within this ecosystem β€” through IRC networks, domain operations, and the @ED_UPDATES Twitter account β€” places him within the extended infrastructure that supported Encyclopedia Dramatica and related projects during their most active periods. **Source Verification** Twitter/X account metadata, domain WHOIS history, IRC network logs, U.S. Department of Justice indictments and sentencing documents related to LulzSec members, and journalistic accounts of the LulzSec investigation (including reporting by Ars Technica, Wired, and The Guardian). β€” - ### XIV. Cannabis Cultivation and Rollitup Presence The subject maintains a documented presence on Rollitup.org, a cannabis cultivation forum, under the username β€œcho0b” (http//www.rollitup.org/members/cho0b-6348.html). The profile is characterized as a β€œstoner profile” in the subject’s collected dossier. **Source Verification** Rollitup.org member profiles are publicly accessible. The account registration date, posting history, and profile details are consistent with the subject’s other documented online activities. Rollitup.org, founded in 2006, is one of the largest online communities dedicated to cannabis cultivation, with extensive forums covering growing techniques, strain reviews, and legalization advocacy. The subject’s presence on this platform is consistent with the broader pattern of engagement with countercultural and grey-market online communities. β€” - ### XV. Notes on Collected Background Data The subject’s dossier references an extensive collection of background records, including - Arrests and criminal records - Warrants and police records - Felonies and misdemeanors - Nationwide court records - Registered sex offender check - Bankruptcies, judgments, liens - Marriage and divorce records - Evictions and foreclosures - Properties and assets - Business records - Professional licenses - Social media records **Methodological Note** The specific contents of these records are not reproduced in full in this dossier pending verification against primary court documents. The reference to their existence is drawn from the subject’s own compiled intelligence file, which indicates that such searches have been conducted. Readers seeking to verify specific criminal or civil records are directed to the Lorain County Clerk of Courts, the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts, the Volusia County (Florida) Clerk of Courts, the PACER federal court records system, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The reference to a β€œRegistered Sex Offender Check” does not necessarily imply a positive result; comprehensive background investigations typically include such checks as a standard component regardless of expected outcome. β€” - ### XVI. The hash 80e5ec87b4fb214fa225fd89291315444901d9766c1e54b57065bc217d43394f is a standard MD5 hash of the email address associated with the Gravatar account. The avatar image can be retrieved by appending this hash to the Gravatar URL structure. The display name β€œIvan” on the Gravatar account contrasts with β€œAlex” on the TikTok account and β€œWilliam” in legal records. This discrepancy may represent deliberate identity compartmentalization, the use of pseudonyms for specific platforms, or historical naming conventions within the communities the subject participates in. The name β€œIvan” has specific connotations in hacker subculture (referencing Ivan Kaspersky and broader Russian hacker stereotypes), and its use may be performative rather than indicative of actual identity. β€” - ### XVII. Methodology and Source Summary This dossier was compiled using exclusively legal and publicly accessible sources 1. **County Property Records** Lorain County Recorder of Deeds, Lorain County Auditor, Cuyahoga County Fiscal Officer, Volusia County Property Appraiser 2. **Voter Registration Databases** Ohio Secretary of State, Lorain County Board of Elections 3. **Phone Records** Commercial carrier lookup services, reverse phone databases 4. **Email Records** Have I Been Pwned API, breach database analysis, platform registration records 5. **Social Media** Public profiles on Twitter/X, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, MySpace, Mastodon, LinkedIn 6. **Platform APIs** GitHub, Gravatar, Steam, Discord, Chess.com, FACEIT, MCUUID, Discogs, Disqus, Freelancer, Freesound, Internet Archive, Xbox Gamertag, eBay, 247CTF, HuggingFace, Arch Linux GitLab, Greasy Fork, Letterboxd, Spotify, Twitch, Kik 7. **Domain and Network** WHOIS records, DNS queries (dig), RIPE database, ICANN registries 8. **IRC** Network registration records, server WHOIS 9. **People Search** Commercial data aggregators, obituary archives, marriage/divorce records 10. **Legal Records** PACER federal court system, county clerk of courts records 11. **Historical Archives** Tor Project mailing list archives, Internet Archive Wayback Machine No hacking, unauthorized access, social engineering, or illegal acquisition of data was employed. Conclusion William James Hollamon is a 40-year-old resident of Lorain, Ohio, the son of Cynthia Kay Hollamon and Douglas Edward Hollamon, and the brother of Chelsea Yates. He is registered to vote in Lorain County and resides at 4636 Queen Anne Ave in the Nottingham Woods subdivision, a property held in trust and purchased in 2022 for $255,000. Over more than two decades of online activity, he has accumulated one of the most extensively cross-referenced digital footprints in the Project PM archive β€” more than 40 verified platform accounts spanning social media, gaming, development, commerce, and communication infrastructure. His aliases include β€œfuxnet,” β€œcho0b,” β€œcho0by,” β€œjihad,” β€œCash,” β€œEnemy,” β€œOne,” and β€œBill.” His documented associations include the Encyclopedia Dramatica project, the LulzNet domain infrastructure, the wtfux.org IRC network, and the extended ecosystem that emerged from the Anonymous and LulzSec hacktivist movements of the late 2000s and early 2010s. His email addresses incorporate his legal surname (β€œHollamon”) in multiple variations. His phone numbers connect him to Ohio, Florida, and Western New York. His relatives span at least 45 documented individuals across the Hollamon, Potter, Kohler, Shaffer, Richmond, Yates, Johnson, and Hickman families. His online activity includes cannabis cultivation forums, CTF competitions, AI/ML platforms, and open-source development repositories. His Gravatar account identifies him as β€œIvan.” His TikTok identifies him as β€œAlex.” His legal name is William. The contradictions between these identities are not evidence of error in this dossier. They are evidence of the subject’s deliberate strategy of identity fragmentation β€” a strategy that, as demonstrated by this document, is ultimately insufficient against systematic open-source intelligence gathering.
