Collect any and all brass casings. No shell left behind. Always use brass catchers or revolvers. ShotSpotter is in a lot of places and will detect suppressed shots. Suppressed shots are as loud as a plane in the air. The best time to shoot is July 4th when ShotSpotter is strained by fireworks. The second best time to shoot is 11:59pm, December 31st. New Years Eve. Several people will be shooting so this is good aural cover. Use shotguns, due to lack of ballistics. Use subsonic ammunition in a suppressed gun for minimal report. Use Frangible ammunition always if you can. No slug, no ballistics. 5.7x28mm is the best caliber for this. Replace your barrels, your ejectors, extractors and firing pins. Ballistics can trace a non frangible bullet to your barrel through bullet striations and ejector/extractor markings on the casing, as well as the primer strike. Buy a bunch of bunch of barrels. Buy a diamond rasp file. Use it to file out barrels used in shootings. With the rasp, scrape the shit out of the inside of the used barrel. This will further fuck with the ballistics of the gun, making a match harder. One night, without taking any electronic devices, toss your scraped barrel into a river. If you fire a gun, go shower once you can to clean off nitrates and wash your clothes also. Get a black colored gun like a Glock. Silver and custom colors shine at night. Get a lightweight polymer gun. So, Glock, Kel-Tec etc. Do not bring ANY electronic devices smarter than a Casio wristwatch because smart watches, Fitbits, smartphones can all be traced. Do not bring anything with GPS, Bluetooth or Wifi. Do not drive any fucking smart cars with OnStar or SiriusXM. Get an old ass vehicle. They can and will track you and with OnStar, they can turn your car off in a high speed chase. Motorcycles, ATVs, old vehicles, bikes only. Have no witness or accomplice. Never bring someone else in on your work. Do not kill someone you know or in your area, not even a local politician you hate. Well, maybe a mayor but not local politicians. Too specific. The idea is to have no connections. So regional journalists, politicians, etc. If you really wanted to fuck with people, buy a bunch of range brass and just dump shells at the scene so it throws off the initial investigation. However, this is doing the most when it is not necessary. Just always collect your shells, you'll have no issues.

If you are caught with a dirty gun, you will pay for every crime that gun was used in, whether you did it or not. If you came into possession of a stolen gun, even if it has no bodies on it, you will go to jail for an illegally obtained firearm. A privately sold firearm would have a bill of sale or some means to prove transfer of ownership, even an Armslist correspondance. A stolen gun will have its serial on file with the police so when they catch you with it, you're getting charged. The best position for you to be in, assuming you are not a felon or someone not allowed to have a gun, is to have a clean gun. A clean gun would be a gun that is neither stolen, nor has any bodies on it. As a person allowed to own a gun, you having a clean gun is your legal right. As a felon or someone not allowed to own a firearm, your course of action is to obtain something that is not legally seen as a firearm, like crossbows, knives, bows, airguns and black-powder, nitro fire, cap-and-ball revolvers, pistols and rifles. If you want to own a gun and intend to use it for legal reasons, you will have to go through a background check, go on file with the ATF, pay taxes, give fingerprints, etc. It's not worth the hassle to be honest. A trackable smart gun, with microstamping, some type of RFID smart bullet and a serial number deep in every part of the gun would be a good way to make gun theft harder and make gun homicides easier to counteract. But, this will never happen and nor should it. The best gun for a person to have in any circumstance, is a ghost gun. You should never have a gun with a filed out serial number or bought off the streets. Get a Polymer80 receiver or in the case of an AR-15, a 80% lower. You want a ghost receiver with no serials.

Notes:
 - You need a cylindrical thin diamond rasp to file out the inside of old gun barrels to fuck with the rifling and the ballistics when you are ready to dispose of the barrel. Get a gunsmithing file kit. Ballistics involve shooting a round out of a gun in evidence to compare the undamaged bullet to the bullet pulled from the scene of a crime. If that bullet matches their damaged slug they pulled out of someone's face or some wall of a grocery store that was robbed, you're fucked. Don't be fucked. Destroy the evidence and dispose of it. 
 - Always use brass catchers and use gloves at all times you are shooting.
 - Get a Glock. This is the best gun for real shit.
 - Replace the Barrel, Ejector, Extractor and Firing Pins after a few drills.
 - Use Frangible Ammunition ALWAYS.
 - Use Brass Catchers ALWAYS.
 - Always toss your scraped old barrels in a large body of water so rust and water based erosion can also occur to the old barrel.
 - Always melt your shells down, cast brass ingots and sell them to some recycling plant or on eBay.
 - To my limited understanding, I think a drop-in 1911 barrel is the best. I may be wrong.
 - Some 1911s are different so it's not universal. You should always look up your specific gun on YouTube for tutorials.
 - Always shower after shooting and wipe leather gloves with wet wipes. All other gloves must be washed.
 - Even with suppressors, you need ear protection.
